At the core of SVO’s business is a sustainable FARMER CONTRACT MODEL, which treats farmers as partners. This model was influential in the creation of SVO by founder Corwin Heatwole, a farmer himself. The farmer contract model was created with other farmers as an alternative to the current grower contracts being used by larger poultry processors.
SVO’s farmer contract model allows farmers to own their own chickens.
The farmers fund the chick placement and feed for the entire life-cycle of each flock, and then sell the chickens to SVO at a premium price-per-pound. SVO uses the purchasing volume of its group of farmers to negotiate feed and chick prices. This allows SVO’s business model to function efficiently while verifying traceability for chick and feed sourcing from consolidated contractors.
