SVO Adds Aeration System to Harrisonburg’s Purcell Park Pond

If you live in Harrisonburg, Virginia, you deeply understand how close-knit this community is. These relationships are cultivated by the drive to support one another locally, and this is what makes being the “Friendly City” Harrisonburg’s claim to fame. But that’s not all Harrisonburg has to offer. Being Virginia’s first culinary district, you can find numerous restaurants with unique and different takes on all types of cuisine. Serving the downtown area, which is surrounded for miles and miles by rich agriculture land, you can find farm-to-table restaurant, Bella Luna Wood-Fired Pizza. Traditionally serving neapolitan style pizza fired in the specially built wood-burning oven at 900 degrees, they were itching to try a little something different. They opened their new event space next-door in May 2016, which features a second, but slightly smaller, oven to be used for special events or busy weekends.

We jumped at the chance to work with Chef Colin, and the dream of The Valley Dish emerged. By pairing with other locally focused businesses and producers, we are able to provide a space for collaboration and conversation. We then reached out to Old Hill Cider, based out of Timberville, VA, and Harrisonburg’s Friendly City Food Co-Op, who happily got involved. The first dinner of this series will be tomorrow night at 6:30pm.

If you missed out on tickets this time around, don’t worry! Our plan is to recreate this time after time by featuring different producers. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on the next dinner.

And thanks! You just made it through SVO’s very first blog post. See you next time!
